The @one Alliance is a collaborative organisation of consultants and contractors working together to deliver more than half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. Alongside operational teams from Anglian Water and other key stakeholders, the @one Alliance designs and constructs water and water recycling (waste water) treatment centres that serve more than six million people in the East of England (and Hartlepool Water). They also maintain and improve the water mains and the sewerage network in the region.
For the @one Alliance to succeed, it must achieve tough targets to reduce waste, carbon and costs while all the time improving service so that Anglian Water can deliver on its promises to the customers they serve.
For the comms team, this means communicating important developments within the capital programme to everyone involved in its delivery and to make people feel part of ‘one’ organisation.
The @one Alliance teamed up with Red to produce a magazine, called one, to help share news and information within the organisation. As well as updating colleagues on their performance against key targets, the publication has to:
• Highlight and share best practice, innovation and project success.
• Support face-to-face communication and achieve two-way communication between construction site and office workers.
• Support the Alliance’s organisational development and creation of a continuous improvement culture and team spirit.
• Heighten awareness of the breadth and depth of @one Alliance activities to all employees, as well as Anglian Water.
Produced three times a year, one spotlights some of the key developments and achievements within the capital programme. It also focuses on the major challenges the @one Alliance faces going forward and reports on how all parts of the business are responding together to meet those challenges.
The content of the magazine is primarily technically focused and reflects the diversity of the projects undertaken. We also report heavily on the need to be safe…to achieve zero accidents, both on construction sites and in the office.
The publication is circulated to key people at Anglian Water and major stakeholders so that they can see how well the @one Alliance is performing.
In the last five-year period, the @one Alliance became an industry leader, successfully delivering more than 850 projects and setting benchmarks for the industry in safety and carbon reduction.
Progress has been founded on the integrated teams and the people who work in the @one Alliance, who have demonstrated that effective collaboration, integration and communication really do deliver better performance. The one magazine is regarded as a key comms tool in the organisation and has won multiple awards from the Institute of Internal Communication as a result
Grant Tuffs, Customer and Communications Manager, said: “The team from Red are fully integrated into the Alliance, so they understand the values and challenges we face. They just ‘get it’ and are therefore able to bring valuable creative expertise to help our organisation flourish.
“They produce perfectly aligned material, both copy and graphics, which helps to strengthen the @one Alliance brand. Through a close working relationship, the Red team are able to suggest and recommend continuous improvements in the material they produce for us. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always polite, available and deliver on time, every time.”
